The beautiful city of Trabzon in the Eastern Black Sea region possesses a very rich architectural heritage. In this book, important examples of Byzantine and Turkish period structures in the city center, along with selected buildings from the districts, are examined with a holistic approach. A large part of the book is devoted to various functional buildings in previously unresearched districts and villages. In this way, the existence of Turkish period buildings in the districts has been revealed. The study reviews the latest foreign and domestic publications, surface surveys, and excavations, emphasizing the city's history, geography, ancient roads, walls, and Byzantine structures. Turkish period buildings are grouped according to their types, and the architectural and artistic values of those that have survived to the present day are briefly discussed. Important structures from both periods that have been lost are also briefly mentioned, drawing attention to our vanished architectural heritage. Undoubtedly, the richest section of the book consists of examples selected from the districts. It takes the reader on a rapid tour among the buildings, glimpsing at the structures of villages where the sky is always cloudy, and the slopes are green and adorned with flowers. Folk architecture, shaped by the rich geography and living culture, is addressed in a separate section, focusing on traditional architecture that has disappeared with urbanization. In its current form, this study serves as a reference source for the architectural history of Trabzon.
