As a member of the Department of Medieval History at the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University, and a long-serving senate member, our esteemed professor Prof. Dr. Abdülkerim Özaydın retired on October 15, 2018. As a distinguished member of our university, Özaydın, who has excelled throughout his academic career with numerous authored works particularly in Seljuk history and various fields of Medieval Islamic history, is a respected figure not only for his professional but also personal qualities. In addition to his scholarly work, he has made significant contributions to the scientific community through the many students he has trained. It is a proud example of loyalty that this commemorative book has been prepared through the joint efforts of his students, friends, and colleagues to honor Prof. Dr. Abdülkerim Özaydın during his lifetime. I wish this book, consisting of scientific articles written by many distinguished academics working at various universities in our country, to be beneficial, and I congratulate all my colleagues who contributed to its preparation. While expressing my gratitude to our esteemed professor for all his services to date, I wish him a happy, healthy, peaceful, and successful life in retirement with all his family members.
